Under the British governance, Kolar district Police organization was further divided in to three sub units like District Police, Railway Police and Kolar Gold Field Force. Under the District Police there were two types of police men functioning called as Rural Police and Regular Police. Crime Cases were use to detect by Patelas, Toti and talvars of villages and after the detection they use to handover the cases to Regular Police. Uniform has been provided for rural police in the year 1901. Police Constables and Officers were use to get appoint according to the Police Regulation Act-1908. At the same time a Special intelligence unit under a superintendent was functioning to look after Kolar Gold Mines at KGF. First Police Station of the Kolar District has been constructed at Marikuppam, KGF. A Police Station is still functioning in the same building. District Police System was functioning according to the Mysore Police Manual-1918. In the year 1956 at the time of State Reorganization Police Administration in different places was functioning according to different acts. To bring unification in the Police Administration Mysore Police Act has been implemented across the state.
At the time of State Reorganization in the year 1956, Kolar District was containing total 10 Taluks. Kolar District Police organization leads by Superintendent of Police. Under SP, 1 Additional SP, 1 DySP, 15 CPIs, 39 Sub Inspectors, 70 ASIs, 270 HCs, 841 Constables, 8 WHCs and 33 WPCs sanctioned for Kolar District Police. To look after the Kolar district Police administration 1 AAO, 3 Section Superintendent, 10 FDAs and 8 SDAs were sanctioned. In the year 2007 Kolar District has been bifurcated and New Chickkaballapura distrct has formed. Meanwhile 4 Taluks came under Kolar District and 6 taluks for Chikkaballapura District. Presently 2 Sub Divisions, 5 Circles and 12 Police Stations are functioning in Kolar District Police.
Presently Kolar District Police is functioning under One Superintendent of Police, One Additional Superintendent of Police, 2 DySP, 8 CPI/PIs, 23 PSIs, 44 ASIs, 163 CHC/WHCs, 367 CPC/WPCs were sanctioned for Civil Staff. District Armed Reserve Police Consists 2 RPIs, 5 RSIs, 6 ARSIs, 81 AHCs and 131 APCs. For Kolar District Police Administration 1 AAO, 2 Section Superintendent, 7 FDAs, 8 SDAs, 2 Stenographer, 2 typists, 4 dalayaths, 4 Sweepers were sanctioned. Regarding Law and Order aspects, Kolar District is highly water deficient area. The water table gone down as much as 1200 to 1500 feet below ground level. In this regard various farmer organisations along with general public have organised number of strike and dharanas during their agitation. Due to short fall of rain fall the scarcity of drinking water and fodder for cattle have increased, the farmers also demanding to declare the district as famine area.
